Jaco Pastorius was an absolutely amazing bass player. Although he was not a rock musician he influenced many rock bass players to play what they play. He went where no one else even dreamed of doing on the bass. One aspect of his playing that was very influential was the effects he used. He used the chorus effect a lot which is a type of delay pedal that is used many times on the bass and guitar. Another effect he used a lot was a synthesizer. This was an effect that people didn't really use back then, but now many keyboardists and bassists use this effect. Something else that he started was the fretless bass. He was one of the first bass players to use this type of bass that was not upright. Everything this man did influenced the way that bass playing and rock music developed to this day.
